"This hugely popular trumpet player almost single-handedly brought Italian jazz to international attention. He began playing Dixieland trombone in Turin, but after hearing Miles Davis (www.allmusic.com/artist/miles-davis-mn0000423829) , switched instruments and embraced the modern style. Other key meetings were with Gato Barbieri (www.allmusic.com/artist/gato-barbieri-mn0000191680),with whom he recorded movie soundtracks in 1962, and Chet Baker (www.allmusic.com/artist/chet-baker-mn0000094210)
Gregoire Maret is one of the most sought after harmonica players in the world: often compared to legends Toots Thielemans and Stevie Wonder, he has been asked to play with an incredible number of famous musicians including Youssn’Dour, Me' Shell Ndegeocello, Pete Seeger, David Sanborn, George Benson, Cassandra Wilson, to name a few. Grégoire toured with the Pat Metheny Group Pat http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Metheny_Grou, receiving a Grammy for Best Contemporary Jazz Album for their album The Way Up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Way_Up. He also won the Jazz Journalists Association ‘Player of the Year Award’.
